I first compiled this list 12 years ago, tired of hearing “the U.S. is the best country in the world” from a bunch of barely literate people who couldn’t name a fact about another country. The U.S. is indeed ranked first in many categories, but many of those categories aren’t good things. This year, I updated the list and source links with more current information.
